On the occasion of Workers' Day on May 1, 2020, at 6 PM, "Autoritratti – Storie di Oggetti" (Self-Portraits - Stories of Objects) will open online, a virtual exhibition that aims to tell the stories of artisans and master artists of national high-quality craftsmanship through their objects.
Conceived by Fondo Plastico, an entrepreneurial entity that has been promoting and enhancing High Craftsmanship for several years, as an idea in the early days of the COVID-19 emergency, the initiative aims to be a concrete action to give voice to the many artisans and Master Artists, in a period when the Coronavirus emergency has led to the cancellation of many initiatives dedicated to the world of Italian High Craftsmanship, and many artisan workshops and "botteghe" have been forced to close, some of which are still waiting to reopen after more than a month.
"We at Fondo Plastico," says Federica Preto, curator of the exhibition, "thought we had to do something to give voice and visibility to the many artisans and Master Artists in our country."
About fifty professional entities, including Master Artists, designers, and artisans from all over the country, responded to the invitation.
Each was asked to emotionally describe one of their works: through it, visitors can immerse themselves and recognize the sensitivity and passion of the artist who created it.
Every object holds a story that must be written and told, and represents its true intangible value.
"For those who know us, they know that storytelling," continues Federica Preto, "has always been the common thread of our initiatives.
In this particular historical moment, we are all called to reflect and write new narratives to give Value to our work."
The stories were deliberately written in the first person, to bring readers closer: being a virtual exhibition, in the absence of a physical space, one must still try to create an empathetic relationship with those who visit the exhibition and perhaps, create that curiosity that can lead to a deeper knowledge of the author. In this way, the work becomes the "self-portrait" of its creator, an element of narration and knowledge.
The artisan object contains a story, and this must be told and valued. The Artisan is the guardian of authentic know-how and an ambassador of a specific territorial culture which, through the object (the work), is expressed and, if told, can become the culture of its territory.
The exhibition will remain open until May 31, 2020, on the website www.arcadeitalenti.com. Throughout the exhibition, meetings with artists will be organized via the web.
During the virtual exhibition, visitors can vote for their favorite work: the author of the most voted work will receive the prize of creating a professional video about their activity. Furthermore, thanks to Beniculturalionline, media partner of the initiative, each participant will have their profile on their website, where they can describe their workshop and their place, thus becoming an attractor for the specific territory.
The exhibition is conceived by Fondo Plastico, in collaboration with Arca dei Talenti.
